The intersection of metal and classical music? I've always been interested in the influence of classical music on various metal genres. I'm not really talking about a band that throws a few strings or a choir behind their riffs, but those that really incorporate classical elements; arrangements, chord progressions, etc. Of all the music styles, it seems like metal (especially thrash and progressive) has the most affinity for the song structure and techniques on classical music, very ironic! what scales/modes work for heavy metal music? examples of scales to music I'm now using are major pentatonic works over country/southern rock. minor pentatonic for blues/rock. Dorian mode for rock. Harmonic minor to natural minor for a somewhat metal sound. I also switch between them for a jazzier sound along with the melodic minor. I'm looking for a scale that gives a darker sound.
