What is the best pedal that beginners can use for rock & metal music?

I Play electric guitar for about 4 months. I play mostly rock & metal music. I covered bands like slipknot, megadeth, ac/dc, RHCP, etc. I only know some simple power chord, and a few easy riff in an easy song. But when i play some song, the sound didn't sound so good and i know i need pedal. So what pedal would u guys suggest ?

1. Digitech whammy pedal cost $200 but makes you sound like Mr.morello
2. Boss DS1 - the king of distortion pedals. Cheap on ebay too
3. Try to go with the BOSS pedals. I would suggest either the Metal Zone, or their Distortion/Overdrive.
4. Try Dimebag's "Crybaby" or I have one called the "Tube Screamer" It's pretty good.
